  Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D
Verdict

The Dynax 7D is a complete camera; despite its being the entry of Konika Minolta in the digital reflex cameras market (not considering the RD3000, which has long been out of production); this bears witness to the long experience of the Japanese firm in photography.

This camera suits the needs of both professional and and advanced amateur users. The camera has a very traditional look, to such an extent that it cannot be distinguished from a reflex film camera, except for the LCD display. Considering the ergonomics, the Dynax 7D is one of the best cameras tested so far, yielding a great image quality.

Some features should be improved, such as autofocus and time to start, but it’s about minor faults whose counterparts are some clever innovations such as the anti-shake system and the sensors that switch the display off when the eye comes close to it.

The menu system could be more intuitive and simpler, but fortunately the need to use them is limited, thanks to the clever arrangement of controls.

We strongly recommend this camera, particularly to those who already own lenses with Minolta –A bayonet link.

Pros:
  • The anti-shake system works well with all lenses
  • Viewfinder is large and bright
  • Excellent ergonomics and controls placement
  • The display is large and clear, even in the sun
  • Very good image quality
Cons:
  • Autofocus system is slow and noisy
  • The button controlling the depth of field is uncomfortable to use
  • Navigation through menus is not intuitive
  • The anti-shake indicator is not very clear
  • Starting the camera takes too much (about 2 sec)
