A firmware update is now available for the Olympus E-500 digital SLR. Changes to the previous version include addition of a three-step adjustable button timer, a white balance off option and a security mode to protect against the unintentional erasing of both JPG and RAW versions of the one image. TO update firmware, siply open the Olympus Master software, connect the camera via USB to the computer and log onto the internet. Choose the Update Camera function from the Online Service menu in the Olympus Master software and the update will be initiated immediately.

The release of a firmware update for Pentax *ist DS SRL digital camera has been announced. New features have been added, such as "Continuous AF" mode to the AF settings in the Record Mode menu, "Auto ISO" to the sensitivity modes, "AE-L button on M" to the Custom Function menu; and others.

The new smc Pentax DA fish-eye 10-17mm F3.5-4.5 ED [IF] lens is designed exclusively for use with the Pentax line of digital SLRs. Mounted on the Pentax *ist D series of digital SLRs, the new Pentax lens will capture fish-eye imagery with a 180° angle of view and a focal length of 10mm as well as super wide-angle performance that allows photographer to make use of dramatic angles-of-view resulting from slight changes in focal length. This super wide-angle capability also will capture images with an expanded perspective including creative deformation of subjects and sharp pan focus that extends throughout the entire frame. The lens will be available in january 2006, at the estimated price of  $579.95 US.
